Quite often, we are faced with a small dilemma when quoting a house lot of windows, or even a small renovation. Almost always its associated with which glass to allow for when quoting glazed windows in bathroom, toilets etc. Now, for the most part, we assume people want an obscure glass to those areas if we haven’t discussed it previously so we allow for such. Generally it is a glass type called "Cathedral" that we use, which is shown below. Cathedral is the most cost effective obscure glass and by far the most common. Another type getting more popular is the white translucent sample as shown below. The white translucent is more expensive of the two, and is only available in laminate form. There is a third type, that is becoming less used than the past and that is called Satinlite. Satinlite looks like white translucent from about the distance the photo below was taken, however upon closer inspection the glass is comprised of tiny squares. Its cost is comparable to the cathedral.

There are a myriad of different types of obscure glass. They range from whites to colours to almost any texture you can think of, and probably many you cant so we can`t try to show you them all, but I am sure a visit to the local glass supplier will prove fruitful as they generally have a ready box of samples for those who are looking for a look that isn`t standard. A little tip to remember, quite often, something that isn`t standard, isn`t cheap!!, so keep that in mind as you look about.

You can see that with the Cathedral type (left) you can still see through the glass, but cant make anything out, however with the translucent glass (right) even the post 3 feet or 900mm behind is completely obscured from view.
