Protim treatment is a spirit based treatment that is drawn into the core of the timber prior to construction of the windows or doors. Using a large vacuum plant, the only one in Geelong, Protim is forced into the timber from all sides ensuring a deep absorption and better treatment.

To maximize the process, all timber is profiled, trenched, sanded, fully prepared prior to treating so all end grain sections etc are fully protected also. Protim offers a conditional 25 year guarantee which shows tremendous faith in a product we have been confident with since we first trialed it with great success nearly ten years ago.

Protim doesn`t only have rot protection qualities though, it is also helpful in preventing other hazards that may in time compromise your new windows. Protim or 235-WR, is classified as H3, which in essence is defined as "exterior above ground fungi and termite hazard". Fungicides and mouldicides are laced within the product, to prevent the air borne spores embedding their root systems into the timber, by making the timber an unpalatable food source.

Termite resistance is also another feature of the treating process. Should an insect be it a borer or termite chew on Protim treated timbers, its digestive system will not be able to withstand the toxic effects of the insecticides. It also acts as a constant repellant, discouraging termites from using the timber as an access highway to other areas of the residence.

But even with all these features, the most beneficial aspect of the Protim treatment is the water repelling tendencies that is inherent with the product. During treatment, resins and waxes considerably reduces the amount of water the timber can absorb, greatly increasing the timbers ability to survive in the long term.

The treatment process does not discolor the timber to any noticeable degree. However it is important to note the when painting or staining windows and doors that have been protim treated, that you use an oil based (turps based) paint or stain (including primer), as water based paints can be broken down over the years by the treatment if conditions suit.

I guess the thing to remember is this, Protim offers you the opportunity to protect the money you intend to spend on your windows for your project. Without treatment, the supplier is relying solely on paint, stain or alternative finish to stop the timber from becoming susceptible, and that’s a fact.

We have on-site a treatment facility, which makes it very convenient and cost effective for us to use it in as many applications as possible. The treatment is effective, it does work, it does extend the life of timber significantly, and on this issue, time is definitely, on our side.
